Christopher Columbus discovered America.<\/strong><\/p>\n Discovered it.<\/p>\n Apparently the millions of Indigenous people already living here were just\u2026 invisible.<\/p>\n But hey \u2014 that\u2019s what the book said.<\/p>\n So we memorized it and moved on.<\/p>\n Then we learned Thomas Edison invented the light bulb.<\/strong><\/p>\n Case closed.<\/p>\n Except the story gets a little more interesting when you learn about Lewis Latimer<\/strong>, a Black inventor who helped make the light bulb practical and affordable by improving the carbon filament.<\/p>\n Funny how that part didn\u2019t always make the front page of the history lesson.<\/p>\n But again\u2026<\/p>\n The book had its version.<\/p>\n And we memorized it.<\/p>\n History isn\u2019t always written to lie.<\/p>\n But it is often written to be comfortable<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Clean.<\/p>\n Simple.<\/p>\n Easy to explain to a classroom full of kids.<\/p>\n The messy parts? Those usually get softened.<\/p>\n Or shortened.<\/p>\n Or left out entirely.<\/p>\n Most of the history we learned had already happened.<\/p>\n The Civil War was over.<\/p>\n World War II was over.<\/p>\n The Cold War was over.<\/p>\n Those chapters were already written.<\/p>\n We were just reading them.<\/p>\n Our kids?<\/p>\n They\u2019re not reading history.<\/p>\n They\u2019re living through a shift while it\u2019s still being written.<\/strong><\/p>\n Artificial intelligence changing the workforce. This isn\u2019t a chapter in a book yet.<\/p>\n This is real time history<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Thirty years from now\u2026<\/p>\n When our kids open a history book about this moment\u2026<\/p>\n What will it say?<\/p>\n Will it tell the full story?<\/p>\n Or the polished version?<\/p>\n Will it explain the complicated truth?<\/p>\n Or the simple narrative that fits neatly into a school curriculum?<\/p>\n Because history doesn\u2019t just record events.<\/p>\n It records the version of events that survives.<\/strong><\/p>\n Because if our children are living through one of the biggest shifts in modern history\u2026<\/p>\n Then education can\u2019t just be about memorizing facts from the past.<\/p>\n Our kids need to learn how to:<\/p>\n Think critically. Not just memorize whatever version of events someone eventually prints in a textbook.<\/p>\n The world our kids are growing up in is changing faster than the one we grew up in.<\/p>\n And if we\u2019re still educating them like it\u2019s 1995\u2026<\/p>\n We\u2019re preparing them for a world that no longer exists.<\/p>\n Because history isn\u2019t just something our kids will study someday.<\/p>\n They\u2019re living inside it right now.<\/strong><\/p>\n And the parents who realize that early\u2026<\/p>\n Will raise the children who know how to navigate it.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" They\u2019re Living Inside It.
